Welcome

Welcome to Setting a Scene, a hub for the all things Mountain Biking (and a few other pedal disciplines) in the South West.

Our group objective is:

“To encourage and enable everyone to ride in an environment where they are surrounded by support and enthusiasm”

The group is well known for its diverse membership, from fitness guru’s to slow steady beginners we have a riding buddy for everyone. All rides are open for anyone to participate in, and ride speeds are equal to the slowest on the ride (so please don’t feel like your slowing anyone down because your not… especially when im riding, as I will be tired and thankful of the pause anyway). Please take a look at our Club forum, its free to join up and take a look around, the majority of the forum is at your disposal for any questions, or suggestions etc, however we do ask that, in order to make full use of the forum and the clubs local discounts, you take a look into our club membership (see the club shop).

Mountain biking allows you to see areas and aspects of the country that you might not otherwise have seen. It’s amazing to see how trails and routes change during the seasons, and how the landscape around us copes with change. We ride trails that are in the correct condition for us to pass through them, taking into consideration area of outstanding beauty and areas closest to SSSI sites, where erosion and rubbish can cause harm to the area. Setting a Scene take pride in the areas around us, and regularly take part in local maintenance sessions, clearing routes and trails of rubbish to ensure the impact trails have on the local area are minimal. Which we hope you will agree is important.

What makes us different?

Setting a Scene ride only as fast as the slowest rider, our larger rides often contain a few small groups of riders, who ride at different paces, meeting as pre set points around trails. While we are officially a “Club” we can take no responsibility for any accidents incidents or damage (or for providing lunch half way around) on rides not officially endorsed by the club. We do take riding seriously and safety is a must. Many of our riders hold valid First aid qualifications gained through their workplace or through other organisations.

We are lucky to have a wide variety of members including (but not limited to) Bike Technicians, MTB Trainers and First Aid Trainer / Assessors. While they advertise their skills and services within the forum we as a group take no responsibility and bear no liability for any of the information, advice and practical training given as the responsibility lies within the individuals directly.
